It’s a sad, but true, statistic: 90% of pets without ID are never reunited with their families. While collars with ID tags are a great start in protecting your pet, they can be easily lost, removed, or become worn and unreadable over time. Fortunately, there’s a much more effective method for increasing the chances that your family’s best friend returns to you. A microchip is inexpensive to you, virtually painless to your pet, easy to insert–and permanent!

How Microchipping Works

A microchip is about the same size as a grain of rice and has no internal power source, so it will never wear out or go dead. It is implanted under the skin of your pet, usually between the shoulder blades, where there are relatively few nerve endings. The process is very similar to your pet receiving a routine vaccination.

If you and your pet have the misfortune of becoming separated, an animal shelter or veterinary office will pass a scanner over your pet’s skin that will instantly read the microchip number. This number is then fed into a database that identifies your pet, matches him or her with your contact information, and leads your family and your pet to a happy reunion–provided you keep the contact information current!

Why Microchip?

It’s painless.

It’s inexpensive.

It’s easy.

It’s permanent.

It dramatically increases the chances of a happy pet and family reunion.

St. Paul Pet is proud to offer micro-chipping for your pet’s safety and for your peace of mind.

While most skin problems are treatable, some can take a little time to correctly diagnose, while others respond slowly to therapy. Only a correct diagnosis can lead to proper therapy. At St. Paul Pet, we are able to define a correct diagnosis in the vast majority of skin problems

How We Diagnose Skin Problems

We begin with an extensive history of your pet, which will include the specifics of the current condition, such as how long the symptoms have existed and what remedies you may have already tried. We will give your pet a thorough physical examination, giving special attention to her skin.

Depending on what we discover in the history and the exam, we may suggest one or more of the following:

Allergy tests through blood

Bacteriological tests

Blood tests

Fungal culture

Microscopic evaluation

Special diets

Once we have the information required to make an accurate diagnosis, we will discuss with you your options for the treatment of your pet.
